National Acclaim For Morris Care
Morris Care, one of Shropshire’s premier providers of quality nursing care, is celebrating success after winning three awards at the annual Shropshire Partners in Care (SPIC) Awards ceremony.
Jackie Hodson from the Morris Care Centre, Telford, walked away with the coveted title of ‘Carer of the Year’ in the residential and nursing category for her dedication to delivering the highest quality care for the elderly and younger physically disabled residents in her care.
Morris Care’s Oldbury Grange Nursing Home, Bridgnorth, won the prestigious ‘Health and Wellbeing’ award for its diverse and innovative range of activities and events that better the lives of its residents. Each Morris Care home has a dedicated Social Life Coordinator who arranges a daily programme of activities to ensure wellbeing amongst residents, and Oldbury Grange’s Social Life Coordinator, Geraldine Bunning, was on hand to collect the award on the night.
Carebase Shortlisted For Three Great British Care Awards 2012 The final award of the night went to the Morris Care Group, who took home the ‘Healthy Eating’ award in recognition of its commitment to providing a healthy, fresh and varied diet for its residents. Under the direction of Paul Ratcliffe, Executive Chef for Morris Care, the Morris Care Group prepares all of its meals onsite, and holds regular ‘restaurant evenings’ for residents and their families, where they enjoy gourmet, restaurant style three course meals, finished with coffee and homemade chocolates, in the comfort of their own surroundings. The awards are run by Shropshire Partners in Care, a non-profit organisation supporting the development of a sustainable and high quality social care sector in the areas of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. This year’s glittering ceremony took place at the Lord Hill Hotel, Shrewsbury, and were hosted by actor James Sutton, best known for his roles in Hollyoaks and Emmerdale.

National Acclaim for Morris Care
Morris Care is celebrating today after one of its Nurses was selected from hundreds of applicants across the UK to become ‘Care Registered Nurse of the Year’ at this year’s National Care Awards. Morris Care prides the quality of its people, their values and the care they provide as its greatest asset. Tim Morris, Director at Morris Care, hailed the award as “an outstanding achievement for an outstanding lady”.
Sally Gardner, Deputy Nurse Manager, has worked at Morris Care’s Oldbury Grange for almost 20 years, and won the coveted award for her tireless work in delivering the highest quality nursing to all of the residents in her care.

Sally has led the team at Oldbury Grange through many changes at the Nursing Home, including the recent multi-million pound refurbishment project and the opening of a brand new eight bed mentally frail facility.
Sally is also instrumental in training younger members of staff to ensure they uphold the levels of quality nursing care delivered in Morris Care nursing homes.
Sally said of her award: “Working at Morris Care has given me a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills, and caring for the residents at Oldbury Grange makes every single day rewarding. To win this award is a wonderful surprise, and truly is the high point of my nursing career.”
The National Care Awards has been the long-term care sector's premier awards event since 1999, promoting excellence within the care industry. Sally was presented with her accolade at a glittering awards ceremony in London, after coming out top during an interview process following her nomination for the award earlier in the year.
Tim Morris said: “During Sally’s time at Oldbury Grange she has constantly displayed exemplary levels of hard work, diligence and passion for delivering the very best quality nursing care to all of our residents. Her standards and dedication are above and beyond the already high levels of care expected by Morris Care, and it is fantastic to see her receive this national recognition.”
Rachel Williams, Nurse Manager at Oldbury Grange, said: “I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award, and everyone at Oldbury Grange is thrilled for Sally. Not only is she an exceptional Deputy Nurse Manager, but she is also an excellent clinician and her work with the care team is second to none.”
Morris Care also had two further representatives in the finals at the National Care Awards. Nursing staff and managers from Isle Court Nursing Home, Bicton, were contenders for the prestigious accolade of ‘Care Team of the Year’, whilst six times award winner,Paul Ratcliffe, Executive Chef for Morris Care, beat hundreds of applicants to be shortlisted for the title of ‘Care Chef of the Year’.
